The Amphitheatre of El Djem in Tunisia is one of the most visited attractions in the country and enjoys protection as a UNESCO Heritage site. Itis the largest building in Roman Africa. It was found in 46BC when it was rich in term of olives. Later on, the town became a leading center for olive oil in Roman North Africa. The Amphitheater served as fortress against the Arab invaders in the 5th century AD and during 4th century AD between different Arab fractions. During the Second World War, El Djem was serving as a refuge for German soldiers and it was attacked by the British. Despite being robbed, the amphitheater still survived with complete stairs and galleries.
